POETRY: NIGHT TO DAY BY LISA KNIGHT

Under the shade of a fading night
I’m listening for sounds
The merriment of lips
Puckered up with drunken hymns
Soon it’ll be day
Where flowers grow
Among reticent foes
With ice for veins
And petty flushes in hostile cheeks
Infused with damnation
Thrown asunder
By generous storms
That whistle and hold sway
No matter which season we’re in
